Haverhill Angling Club news
By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 26th April 2010.
Last week saw two Haverhill Angling Club members, Danny Porter and Rupert Beynon, enter the qualifying rounds to this year's Fish-O-Mania at Makins fishery in Warwickshire.
A total of 130 entered this one of 16 qualifying rounds with only the winner progressing through to the final, which is televised on Sky Sports.
Danny drew a peg on the third phase, Rupert on the second, and although both had nets of carp and silver fish and caught steadily throughout the day, unfortunately neither managed to get through to the next round.
The latest club match took place last Sunday at Lawn Farm fisheries. Despite the prospect of a fine hot day, it actually rained most of the match with Jason Jeggo managing to collapse his umbrella around himself.
All anglers caught, with some nice carp showing in the margins. Michael Potter won a close match fishing pellet on the method feeder and maggot on the hook, with 40lb.
Mr Norfolk, fishing the method to the island also with pellet, took second place with 39lb 6oz and Pete Griggs was third using a pole close into the margins.
Fish of the day fell to Jason Jeggo with a foul hooked 9lb carp. The next match is at Clavering lakes on Sunday, May 9.
