Hannah gets in trim for wedding and walking
Wednesday, 11th August 2010.
A bride to be who wants to shape up for a very unusual honeymoon has won a year’s free membership of Haverhill Leisure Centre.
When Hannah Mckay, 24, of Gannet Close in Haverhill, marries Graham Warren at Chilford Hall on September 18, she will not be packing the usual sundress, sandals and suntan lotion.
Instead she will be packing sodium tablets, sleeping bags, mosquito nets and walking boots for a three-week trek in Nepal.
So when Hannah saw a competition run by Abbeycroft Leisure, celebrating its fifth birthday, to win a free year’s membership to Haverhill Leisure Centre, she entered.
Hannah and new husband Graham will walk hundreds of miles on the trek and are hoping to spot the very rare one-horned rhino on their trip. The couple, who have a son Ben, four, also plan to go white water rafting and go on safari.
Hannah said: “We didn’t want a normal holiday for our honeymoon and when Graham suggested we went on an adventure holiday I was very worried because he is much fitter than I am and I don’t want to be the one at the back lagging behind. But now with the help of the free gym membership I will be able to get in shape for my wedding and my honeymoon.
“I’ve never done anything like this and certainly never walked this far but I’m very excited about the trip.”
As well as the free membership, which will entitle Hannah to use the gym, pool and fitness classes, Hannah will also receive 12 free sessions with a personal trainer from Your Personal Training to ensure she gets the best possible start for her new fitness regime.
Alison Bowyer, Abbeycroft Leisure’s development manager, said: “Hannah’s entry stood out because there were two reasons why she wanted to get fit.
"Firstly, she wanted to lose weight for her wedding day and secondly to make the most of her honeymoon trek in Nepal. Not only will the gym help her get in shape for the wedding and honeymoon but she will also be in the best shape of her life for the start of her new life with husband Graham.”
