A VARIETY of community groups throughout the Borough will benefit from grants totalling £44,000 which were this week approved by the Leisure Services Committee.
Haverhill Cricket Club will receive £2,750 towards the cost of a new boundary rope and roller; Cangle Junction, in the town was granted £500 towards a new darkroom; and the every growing Clare Music Festival will get a contribution of £500. Whilst Suffolk Young People's Theatre also benefits from a grant of £500 towards its two-week summer workshop. A grant request by the Haverhill Sinfonia has also been granted.
Villages across the Borough are also benefiting with Hundon and Great Barton receiving £5,000 and £7,500 respectively towards the cost of building works for the village halls.
Play areas in Thurlow, Fornham All Saints, Hargrave, Horringer and Brockley will also be getting grants for new equipment or repairs.
Leisure Services Committee Chairman, Cllr Mrs Sara Mildmay-White, said:
"This is good news for organisations throughout the whole Borough. Thousands of people will benefit from these grants, which offer direct help in some cases and in others allow groups to access further funding."
