Green champion calls time on his role
Wednesday, 24th February 2010.
Suffolk's ecological champion is quitting because he has not got enough time to devote to the cause.
Cllr Paul West is stepping down from his role as portfolio holder for the greenest county at Suffolk County Council.
Announcing his decision, Cllr West, pictured right, who had been appointed to the role in June last year, explained that he had found he was unable to devote as much time to the job as he had initially hoped.
He said: “It’s been a real privilege to hold this portfolio. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have relished the challenges involved in working to make Suffolk the greenest county.
"But unfortunately, the demands on my time are too great at present, and so I have reluctantly decided to step down from the role.
“I will continue giving 100 per cent support to Jeremy Pembroke and the Conservative administration at Suffolk County Council. I also wish my successor the very best of luck in what is an exciting position.”
Judy Terry, pictured left, county councillor for Rushmere, Ipswich, will join the cabinet as portfolio holder for the greenest county from March 1.
