Good Life Greener Homes
Friday, 11th September 2009.
St Edmundsbury residents can obtain free home energy efficiency materials when they attend special DIY greener homes events in the borough this month.
Andrew Oswald, Environment Officer at St Edmundsbury Borough Council explains,
“We are inviting residents who are interested in saving money and staying warmer this winter to come to one of our DIY events to see what goods are on offer and to apply for what they need. Once the application forms have been returned, we order in bulk and the goods are delivered to a central point in the community on a specific day. All the residents then need to do is collect and install the goods”.
The list of goods on offer includes loft insulation, draught stripping, pipe insulation, hot water tank jackets, solid wall insulation, reflective radiator panels and energy use meters. Everyone living in the area who attends the events can apply for something for free, saving money on fuel bills and reducing their carbon footprint.
The Greener Homes DIY scheme is being piloted by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, parish councils, Suffolk- Creating the Greenest County and the Energy Saving Trust; thanks to funding from the Regional Housing Pot. For more information go to website below.
There are three events taking place in St Edmundsbury,
Barrow Village Hall, Saturday 19th September between 10am and 1pm
Sapiston Village Hall, Tuesday 22nd September between 6pm and 9pm
Great Barton Village Hall, Monday 5th October between 5pm and 8pm
There are also interest free loans available from the Ipswich and Suffolk Credit Union Ltd for Renewable Energy installations (e.g. solar water heating) and for any extra energy efficiency measures not included in the free allowance (conditions apply).
