Golf club pro takes on regional role
Wednesday, 25th April 2012.
Haverhill Golf Club's head professional Paul Wilby, currently Suffolk PGA Chairman, was elected as captain of the PGA East Region for 2012 at the end of March.
The PGA’s chief executive, Sandy Jones, recently wrote a letter to congratulate Wilby on receiving this honorary role from his fellow PGA Members and added: "I do hope your club will also recognise the outstanding job you do for them as an ambassador promoting your golf club whereever you travel and during the year ahead you will certainly do that with distinction."
Wilby has been head professional at Haverhill since September 2008 and spent the previous five years as director of golf at Fynn Valley Golf Club in Ipswich.
He also has had experience as a golf commentator for the Royal Family of Brunei and has worked with international golf coaches, Dennis Pugh and David Leadbetter.
When Wilby joined Haverhill Golf Club he planned to create a successful junior academy, based on his previous success at Fynn Valley Golf Club, where the academy produced seven young PGA golf professionals.
The academy at Haverhill gives juniors in excess of 150 hours coaching a year, where they learn valuable skills to help them with their golf as well as personal development.
Two golf events are organised each year to help finance the academy, and the Junior Fundraiser on Thursday, April 19, was extremely well supported with 18 teams of four taking part. The next fundraiser, The Wilby Anniversary Day, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 29.
Following on from his recent achievement, Wilby was delighted to receive his new Peugeot RCZ GT from Debbie Howlett of Howlett of Lavenham, Peugeot Professionals.
Howlett of Lavenham, who supplied the car, are delighted to announce that they will be sponsoring Paul for the next two years and also congratulated him on his success for being elected as captain of the PGA East Region.
