Golf club captains exit with a special event

There was a strong field taking part, representing all sections of Haverhill Golf Club in the stableford pairs competition.
The partnership of Paul Bartlett and Frank Gooch dove-tailed perfectly to win with a score of 45pts. Jim Bowser and Danny Allen were the runners-up with 43pts, edging the pairing of Alan Carter and Jacqueline Condon into third place on countback, with a score of 43pts.
Other prizes: nearest the pin on the 16th was Graham Kennedy for the men, and Anna Fairhead on the eighth for the ladies.
David Chapman thanked everyone for all their support during his year as captain. Both he and Sally wished the incoming captains, Keith Brown and Marian Mercer, all the best for the 2011/12 season.
The Bob Hutchinson Cup (Midweek Medal Final) was played on Wednesday, March 16, with the field comprising the winners from the 2010/11 season’s monthly midweek medals.
Roger Hartley had a fantastic round to finish with a nett 63 and as a result has his handicap reduced by two to 18. Andy Fish was runner-up on countback with 74-4-70 and in third place Eric Armstrong 81-11-70.
On Wednesday and Saturday, March 15 and 19, the Ladies Stableford was contested. Sally Price was the overall winner, four points clear of her nearest rival with a score of 38pts, and has reduced her handicap by two shots to 24.
In second place was Sheila Price with 34pts and in third place Doreen Darbey with 33pts.
