GOLF - Briggs and Brown edge into national final

CHRIS Briggs and Keith Brown, from Haverhill Golf Club, have won the Eastern District final of the Rotary Club knockout event at Thetford Golf Club.

The pair will now play in the national final at Nottingham’s Hollinwell Golf Course after a close match which the Haverhill duo sealed victory on the final two holes.
It was all square after 16 holes but their opponents from Norwich Rotary Club put their balls into the thick gorse at 17 and Briggs and Brown also captured the last hole.
There were joint winners of the C & G Merit Award, which has been played over three legs during the summer.
Steven Moye and David Roope finished on 137 after disposing of their worst rounds while Eric Kiddle, Keith Brown and Mich Calmet shared third place on 138.
The Cecil Darken Cup for over-50s was the second event at the club, which was played over three legs.
Alan Whitfield was the only player to return two sub-par rounds with a 66 and a 69 for a total of 135 to win by three
shots.
Haverhill teams were out in force during the week.
The juniors travelled to Bury St Edmunds where they lost 4 1/2 – 3 1/2 in singles match, the ladies played host to Bourn in a fourball betterball match, which they won 3-1, and the seniors won 6-2 at home to Towerlands in a fourball
betterball match.
