Girls through to semi-finals
Thursday, 5th April 2001.
FOR the second year in a row, a girls' under-16 football team has made it to the semi-finals at national level.
The team, from Castle Manor Upper School, has once again stormed through four rounds to make it to the semi-finals.
Their opponents have been from around the country. The first round saw the Manor girls pitted against Warren School in Romford.
After being victorious there, the girls then travelled to Watford to beat Queen's School convincingly 6-2.
Another away game, in Canterbury, against the Simon Langton Girls' School, put them through to the fourth round after winning 4-2.
The fourth round was the hardest.
Castle Manor and their rivals, the Cardinal Newman School in Brighton, were matched so evenly that the game went into extra time and eventually penalty shoot-outs.
The Castle Manor girls put in a last-minute effort and won 5-4.
The team is waiting to hear who they will be facing in the semi-finals.
