Gift for twin town with love

Thursday, 6th June 2002.

Artist Alan Attlsey has a special reason to be grateful for town twinning links between Haverhill and Ehringhausen in Germany, because he met his wife on one.

Mr Attlesey, 54 of Steeplechase, Hundon, and his wife, Sandra will be in a party of 83 leaving Haverhill this week on the 20th anniversary trip to the German twin town.

During the visit the German town twinning group will be presented with a painting of Long Melford church by Mr Attlese.

After 24 years as a teacher at Castle Manor Upper School in Haverhill, Mr Attlesey gave up the profession to concentrate on painting. He now does shift work as a porter at King’s College, Cambridge so that he can paint in the best light during the mornings.

When he was asked to paint a gift for the German hosts, Mr Attlesey was happy to oblige.

He said: “I went on my first trip to Ehringhausen two years ago and met my wife. When they asked me to do a painting I thought it was the least I could do. I think I got the better deal out of it..”
