Get ready for the roadworks season
Tuesday, 19th April 2011.
Suffolk County Council's £3m summer programme of road surface dressing gets underway this week – which will see 500 Suffolk roads covering 300 miles repaired following the recent harsh winter.
This essential road maintenance work will target both the roads that have deteriorated as a result of bad winter weather, and those that could be at risk of damage during future winters.
The programme, which will run until mid-August, will be predominantly funded through assistance from the Department for Transport. The remaining funding will come from the county council’s road maintenance budget.
Cllr Guy McGregor, the council's portfolio holder for roads, transport and planning said: “By intervening early in this way it will help prevent potholes and the need for more costly and disruptive repairs at a later date.”
