Get a taste for digital technology

FREE taster workshops are to be held at Haverhill at the start of a two-year Multi@rts project for the town, aimed at getting people to use the latest digital equipment.
More than £50,000 in Lottery funding was awarded for the project, which has been used to set up a new digital studio at Cangle Junction in Haverhill, equipped with top of the range computers and all the latest digital and video cameras as well as high tech accessories.
The cash has also funded the services of Sally Roberts, a digital media development worker, who will show people how to use the equipment. She will work with Caro Blount-Shah, arts development officer for St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
Workshops and open access sessions will be held during the day and in the evening, catering for the unemployed, those on shifts and those who can only come after work.
Taster sessions are open to anyone with an interest in computer arts and cover subjects such as photo manipulation, website design and animation filming.
They are just two hours long and designed as a brief introduction to the subject.
Open access sessions are for those who already have experience or want to develop skills from a taster session further. Sally Roberts said places are limited and must be pre-booked.
"The first workshops are free and we are offering a range of subjects to see what people are interested in. Subsequent sessions will be offered depending on the responses and feedback received," she said.
Miss Blount-Shah said: "Multi@rts offers fantastic new assets for Haverhill, open for community groups, artists and individuals who wish to explore new frontiers."
A leaflet detailing the taster sessions, which begin on Tuesday, March 20, and open access sessions, starting on April 29, is available from Haverhill Library, Cangle Junction, the Arts Centre and Haverhill Town Council.
