Future of Bevan House in the spotlight
Tuesday, 16th February 2010.
The future of Haverhill Town Council's old home at Bevan House in Camps Road comes under discussion at tonight's council meeting.
Formerly the local headquarters of the Transport and General Workers Union, Bevan House became the town council's base when it was founded in 1989 and remained so until the council took over Haverhill Arts Centre and moved there.
The council still owns the building and currently leases it to the British Red Cross, who are seeking a new five-year lease.
But a report to councillors says informal discussions have taken place with a housing association and with Suffolk County Council about potential redevelopment of the site, and it might be necessary to negotiate a more flexible lease which would allow the council to take advantage of any opportunities which might come forward.
