Further progress on planned improvement works to Fiveways Roundabout
Monday, 23rd November 2015.
The Secretary of State for Transport has set out that new temporary signs are in place, and planned improvement works to the A11 southwest bound approach will now be carried out by Highways England after the Christmas period to allow current safety issues to be addressed.
In a letter to Matthew Hancock, The Rt Hon Patrick Mcloughlin MP, Secretary of State for Transport, said that he was aware of congestion on the Fiveways roundabout during peak hours and said that the Post Opening Project Evaluation report will take this into consideration next year before carrying out planned improvement works.
The Transport Secretary said that the report will review the roundabout’s operation and take into account and impact of the dualled A11 on the local road network. He also concluded that he is already very encouraged by early indications of dualling the A11 and has already seen benefits in the area.
Commenting, Matthew said:
“The concerns around traffic volume and the safety of all who use the roundabout should rightly be a priority and I am pleased that we have now received confirmation that Highways England are to carry out a more detailed analysis of these safety issues after Christmas.
“I regularly use this roundabout and have seen first-hand how busy it can get. I will continue to push for our local roads to have the upgrades they need, and for safety to be paramount as these improvements are continued to be carried out”.
“It is positive news, however, that the Secretary of State acknowledges that early indications of dualling the A11 are very encouraging and that he agrees with me that dualling the final stretch of the A11 would be hugely beneficial for residents and businesses in our region”.
