Free chance to find out who you think you are
Monday, 10th January 2011.
If you’d ever wondered who your ancestors were and how to go about finding out then come along to the Find Your Ancestors day at Haverhill Library on Saturday, January 22.
Entry is free and members of the Haverhill Family History group will be there to offer practical advice and help with your research for all areas of the country.
The morning session starts at 11am with John Young, chairman of the Essex Society for Family History, giving a talk about researching his military family, with tips and suggestions for you, titled Go Tell It To the Marines.
A practical session, suitable for both beginners and those who have already started but are maybe ‘stuck’, follows from about 12.30pm until 3.30pm. John, who has years of experience helping others, will be on-hand along with members of the Haverhill group.
A variety of resources are available to get you going with your search, including local records from Suffolk Family History Society and for all parts of the country from a variety of sources.
New on CD from SFHS (pictured), and produced by Haverhill Family History Group member Derek Wright, are easily searchable baptism records for Haverhill and 29 surrounding Suffolk parishes, extending to Clare, Wickhambrook and the Bradleys, from 1754 to 1812. This compliments an existing CD covering 1813 to 1900.
As well as providing plenty of ‘food for thought’ light refreshments will also be available for those needing sustenance!
To book your FREE seat for the talk and for further details contact staff at the library (01440) 702638.
