Football side aims to net girl players
Thursday, 5th October 2000.
A TEAM of football-mad girls are scouting for talent to bring their squad up to strength. The newly set-up Haverhill Rovers under-11 girls team need around four more players to make up the team and allow for illness and injury as well.
The team will be run by Karen and Ashley Smith, along with coach Kelly Taylor.
Mrs Smith said: "Our nine-year-old daughter, Bekki, is football-mad but did not have a team he could play with, so we decided to start one.
"The kids who have joined us are all very keen and eager to start playing competitive games but we need a few more players."
Youngsters wanting to join the team will have to be aged between eight and 10.
The group meets for practice on Thursday evenings from 6-7pm in the grounds of Haverhill Library.
Anyone interested in joining can turn up for the practice sessions or call Karen Smith on (01440) 707284.
