Follow-up meeting on rail renewal progress next week
Friday, 31st January 2014.
Another meeting about Haverhill's possible reconnection to the rail network will take place next week.
The consultation is to take place next Friday at 11am at Days Inn in Haverhill. A variety of authorities and organisations are being invited to send representatives to the event.
There will be an address by Matthew Hancock, Haverhill's MP, a run-down of news of recent transport developments and aspirations and debates on the growth of Haverhill's population and commerce; the promise of national government to support considerable investment in transport and housing in Cambridge city, including Addenbrookes Hospital; aspirations for the 'unclogging' of routes from the city to market towns such as Haverhill by means of reopened rail-links or busways; the need to improve the A1307 by dualling; the desirability of a bus-link (virtual railway) between Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill & Stansted Airport; consideration of the railway renewal group's proposal of an engineering feasibility study into a Cambridge to Haverhill rail link; and possible sources of finance for transport improvements, eg European Union, Stansted Airport authorities.
Mr Hancock has already organised a special meeting next month to push for dualling of the A1307.
