Flooding disruption reaches Haverhill

Friday, 7th February 2014.

Travel into Haverhill has been severely disrupted by floods today, with water across virtually all entry roads.

Two schools, Burton End Primary and Clements Primary have been closed, and Suffolk County Council representatives, aiming to get to a major meeting in the town about the A1307 travel corridor had to give up and go back to Ipswich.

The roads en route to Clare this morning had several substantial floods, developing traffic queues, and the levels are still rising.

Burton End School was closed with flooding in the classrooms and in the kitchens. Children arriving independently were accepted, along with others whose parents/carers are unable to make alternative arrangements.

All parents/carers were contacted and arrangements made to ensure school meals were available to pupils still at the school at lunchtime.

Flooding on the A143 near Stradishall was passable but there were long queues and there was a similar situation on the A1307 at Linton.

Further rain is forecast in this region tonight and over the weekend.
