First School Organisation Review Building Project gets Underway at Wickhambrook
Wednesday, 22nd July 2009.
Work to increase facilities at Wickhambrook Primary School has got underway. The work which is being funded as part of the school organisation review project will provide a number of new and improved facilities for the school.
The project is expected to take eleven weeks with work inside the school being carried out during the summer holidays to ensure disruption for pupils is kept to a minimum.
Once the project is complete, the school will benefit from a refurbished class base, a new group room, a new IT suite to improve current facilities, increased storage area, a new Info Bar / IT point for parents and improved toilet facilities.
Councillor Graham Newman, portfolio holder for children, schools and young people services said: “This is the first of many projects that will be carried out as part of the school organisation review. The school will benefit from these improved facilities for many years to come. The school organisation review is focused on raising standards and creating a school system for the future, providing young people and staff with the best facilities possible. I am looking forward to seeing other building projects starting in the coming weeks.
Georgina Ellis, headteacher of Wickhambrook Primary School said: “We have worked hard with the county council to maximise the opportunities the review has presented us with. We have planned carefully for these changes to ensure we continue to support all young people at the school in achieving the very best they can.”
From 2010 young people at Wickhambrook Primary will remain at their primary school until the age of eleven before transferring to a secondary school.
