First On Track youth club starts in town
Thursday, 12th July 2001.
THE first On Track activity in Haverhill starts today, 12 July, with the opening of Glyders, a joint initiative with community education, provided by Suffolk County Council.
Glyders is the newest social club at the Hangar (the Youth facility at the community education centre, next door to the library) catering exclusively for Years 7 and 8 at Middle school. Young people who will be moving up to Year 7 in September are eligible to join the club, which will be run on Thursday evenings, from 5 to 7pm, by trained youth workers and committed volunteers. The aim is to provide social and leisure facilities in a safe and friendly environment. Weekly subscriptions for the club will be 50p. This money will go towards paying for the premises and subsidising activities and trips. Parents and guardians who volunteer assistance will be given free entry to the club for their children.
On Track is part of the Government-run Children's Fund which has been set up to improve opportunities for young people aged 4-12 and their families and is managed by the Children and Young People’s unit, part of the Department for Education and Skills.
