Firewalkers Blaze A Trail For Charity
Thursday, 21st October 2004.
Walking on hot coals proved to be a very profitable occupation for a group of pub staff and customers, who raised £1,763 for Magpas First Responders from their efforts.
A total of 28 people took part in the sponsored fire walk outside the Bell Hotel in Haverhill earlier this year and landlord Ryan Churchward has now presented the cheque to Magpas Community First Responder scheme manager Lorna Hayes.
Ms Hayes said the cash would be used to provide more equipment.
Mr Churchward said he was really pleased with the sum raised. "It was an excellent night, we had a really good turnout and the street was packed. We had customers, staff and two Haverhill First Responders taking part and everyone who walked was quite inspired by it."
Newly recruited Haverhill First Responder Rosemary Burge went along to the presentation, along with organiser margaret Marks.
More sponsorship and more volunteers are always needed and anyone interested should ring
