Fire service warns over bogus inspector
Monday, 12th November 2001.
Suffolk Fire Service is issued an urgent warning today about a man posing as a Fire
Safety Inspector who recently visited a Holiday Centre in Lowestoft.
He claimed he was there to carry out a safety inspection.
The centres owner became suspicious of the man's actions and checked with the Fire Service, who had no knowledge of the visit.
Alan Campion, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer, said: "The motives of this person are unclear, but I urge everyone to be vigilant and ask for proof of identity before allowing any person who claims to be from the Fire Service, to enter their property.
He reminded people “all of our officers carry an Identity Card and will show it, if requested to do so. If you have any doubts about such a caller, you should refuse to let them in and contact the Fire Service Headquarters on 01473 588888, or the Police, at once."
Whilst this particular incident happened in Lowestoft, the Fire Service sat that it is quite possible that this man could appear anywhere within the county.
The police are aware of this incident and anyone who has any further
information should contact them on 01473 613500.
