Fire crews beat building blaze
Thursday, 19th April 2001.
FIRE crews across the region tackled a blaze in a derelict building in Haverhill.
Suffolk fire service received a call to the Old Vet's Surgery in Ehringshusen Way, Haverhill just before 11pm last night.
Two crews from Haverhill, one from Wickham Brook and one from Clare went to the blaze in the derelict building, which was well alight.
An aerial jet and communications vehicle were sent from Bury St Edmunds.
By 1am half the roof had collapsed on the 65ft by 130ft building.
The fire was under control by 1.39am, and two crews, from Newmarket and Long Melford, were called upon to damp down the fire.
Another crew from Sudbury took over at around 7am today.
An investigation is under way into the cause of the blaze.
