Final golf major is finally contested
Tuesday, 9th February 2010.
The Asco Cup, the final major competition of the fixtures calendar at Haverhill Golf Club, was finally played on Sunday.
The event had been postponed on several occasions due to the recent spell of wintry weather.
The competition, a foursomes event, was closely contested but the winning partnership of Tim Daniels and Andy Softley romped home with a great score of 81-13-68.
They just ousted second-placed Howard Ward and Mark Barrett with 85-16-69, who in turn beat third-placed Lee Chandler and Joe Davis on countback, who had a score of 80-11-69.
The Ladies’ Medal was played on Saturday, and again conditions proved testing for those who took part. Winning by just one shot was Sue Carr with a nett 76 from second place Mary Sail with a nett 77. Sheila Price finished in third place with a nett 80.
