Fifteen motorists fined so far for breaking parking regulations in high street
Wednesday, 27th July 2011.
Two weeks of enforcement of parking regulations in Haverhill High Street have seen 15 motorists issued with fixed penalty notices.
These were to vehicles parked on double yellow lines or pavements, and mean the driver will have to pay a fine of £30.
Since being requested by residents at a public meeting early in June to deal with the cavalier way many motorists ignored the regulations, the police spent several weeks issuing warnings.
This was partly because the yellow lines had faded and needed repainting to make the regulations completely clear.
Once this was done, after some delay, by Suffolk County Council, police moved to enforcement, and will continue to do so as one of their three priorities set by the Safer Neighbourhood Team as a result of the public meeting.
