Festival programme unveiled, headlined by The Searchers
Tuesday, 28th May 2013.
Haverhill Town Council’s Haverhill Festival returns for 2013 choc-a-bloc with great music, family shows, fun days, walks and talks and theatre from Thursday, June 13, to Sunday, June 30.
Musical highlights include 60s icons The Searchers (Thursday, June 13, 8pm) with favourites like Needles And Pins and Sweets For My Sweet and An Evening of Dirty Dancing (Friday, June 14, 8pm).
There’s also acoustic guitar from Woody Mann (Wednesday, June 19, 8pm) and the pop-tastic Supersonic 70s Show (Friday, June 21, 8pm).
Local groups are represented in the form of Haverhill Choral Society performing Coronation Year Revisited (Sunday, June 23, 7.30pm) with a recital from Anthony Brown on the saxophone and Leo Nicholson on the piano.
If your children or grandchildren are budding thespians take them along to Image Musical Theatre’s The Wind in the Willows (Saturday, June 15, 2.30pm).
Some of the younger audience members play the part of the woodland animals, including those pesky weasels, whilst everyone can join in with the songs. It’s family theatre at its best.
Helen Mirren fans are in for a treat with the highly acclaimed, box office hit The Audience. It will be recorded from National Theatre production and shown on the Arts Centre cinema screen as live (Saturday, June 15, 7.30pm and Monday, June 24, 1.30pm)
Other events at the Arts Centre include Derek Acorah, the medium famous from his appearances on Most Haunted (Thursday, June 20, 8pm) and organist Robert Wolfe (Tuesday, June 18, 7.30pm).
Outdoor events include a Toddler’s Bug Hunt in East Town Park (Thursday, June 13, from 10.30am) Streetball Xtreme on the Market Square(Saturday, June 22, from 10.30am), Wildlife Oasis at West Town Park (Tuesday, June 25, 7pm) and a fascinating insight into Haverhill’s old railway with both A Railway Walk starting at Colne Valley Road (Thursday, June 27, 7pm) and All Change At Haverhill, a talk to be held in the library (Saturday, June 29, 11am).
There is also a Fun Day on Castle Playing Fields (Saturday, June 22, from 12noon), The Street Festival where weird and wonderful street performers take over the High Street (Saturday, June 29, from 10.30am) and A Community Extravaganza on the Recreation Ground (Saturday, June 29, 11am)
In traditional style the festival closes with the Last Night of the Festival Proms held at the Old Independent Church (Sunday, June 30, 7.30pm), with Haverhill Operatic Society and Haverhill Silver Band - a chance to wave the flags and wish the festival good bye, for another year at least.
