Festival of fun lined up for children
Friday, 6th August 2010.
Children in Haverhill are being invited to their own free summer festival this month, packed with play, workshops, sports and more.
Open from 10am to 4pm, the event is being held on Wednesday, August 18, at the Recreation Ground in Haverhill, and is being provided by St Edmundsbury Council, which is hosting a similar event in Bury St Edmunds the previous day.
Although it is aimed at eight to 13-year-olds, there are lots of activities for younger and older people, including parents.
These include workshops for circus skills, African drumming, street dance, a fairy workshop, a BMX show, a smoothie bike and lots of arts and crafts activities, Poz the magician and the usual face-painting and bouncy castle - and it's all free.
Cllr Lynsey Alexander, St Edmundsbury cabinet member for culture and sport said: “It is a great day out with loads of new things to try out.
"We secured £20,000 a year for three years through Partners In Play Lottery funding to run this event, aimed at raising the profile of play and at increasing the opportunities for play in the borough.
"Last year proved a great success and we are looking forward to as many people as possible to coming along.”
The borough’s leisure services section is being assisted with the event this year by Abbeycroft Leisure and the play ranger team from Forest Heath District Council.
