Estate's facelift work is launched
Thursday, 16th December 1999.
TENANTS James and Geraldine Guinivan took an early morning trip up a ladder to watch workmen start rendering work on their home.
Coun Jennifer Hart, chairman of St Edmundsbury Borough Council's Housing Committee joined the Guinivans on the scaffolding at their home at Boxford Court, on the Clements Estate in Haverhill.
The work is the first step of a £4 million improvement scheme to take place on the estate over eight years.
The Housing Committee allocated £84,000 for the first stage, which includes 14 homes urgently needing re-rendering and some remedial wall tie work.
A survey of 120 council-owned properties on the estate revealed where urgent work was needed.
"This is part of the long term maintenance and improvement programme for the Clements estate and I welcome the chance to see how the work is being carried out," Coun Hart said.
