English team wins after greenkeepers' triumph
Monday, 4th January 2010.
Fifty-two members played in the International competition held at Haverhill Golf Club on December 27.
Given the amount of snow that was still present on the course only the day before, it was a credit to the course and greenkeepers that the actual event was played at all, let alone with all greens open and in such superb condition.
The overall result was a win for the England team and top score prizes were won by Catie Heathfield for the ladies and Russell Gritty for the men.
The event raised £100 for the St Nicholas Hospice and thanks go to Doreen Darbey and Steve Nichols for captaining their teams in this annual event.
During the match, Frank Smith struck gold once again after recently celebrating a hole in one on Saturday, November 28, (on the 12th) and also during a friendly game back in October (on the 16th).
He repeated this amazing feat once again on the 16th, a 185-yard par three to get his hat-trick for 2009! This now takes Frank’s tally to six holes in one since starting to play golf in 1985.
