Elderly to get help for home repairs
Wednesday, 10th October 2001.
Help with the cost of repairs to homes is available for older people through a scheme run by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
Grants from the Home Repair Assistance fund can be given to older homeowners who receive a state retirement pension, or an income related benefit, or a disability benefit. Part of the Council's homes strategy is helping people to stay in their own homes and the grants can help to make them more secure and comfortable.
Home Repair Assistance covers a range of small jobs such as repairs to roofs, guttering, paths, doors, windows, taps, handles, woodwork and heating facilities. It can also cover providing handrails and access ramps. The grant covers the whole cost of the repair, up to £5,000, and there is no limit to the amount of times applications can be made to the fund.
