Easter holiday sparks a spate of burglaries

Thursday, 24th April 2014.

Police are appealing for witnesses after four burglaries in Haverhill over the past few days.

The first incident occurred between 10.15pm and 11.50pm on Easter Day in Tern Close, where an insecure back door was entered and a handbag along with two mobile phones were stolen from the kitchen.

At 11pm the following day, Bank Holiday Monday, the occupants of a house in Jay Close were woken by a loud bang, which turned out to be the glass in the rear patio doors being smashed.

The victims then looked out of the window to see a man trying to force the door handles, but on realising he had woken the occupants the offender fled over the rear fence along with a second man. Police attended and searched the area but were unable to trace the suspects.

Between 11.30am and 11.45am on Tuesday, the rear window of a property in Burton End was forced open, but it is not believed that the offenders gained entry to the house.

The final burglary took place between 9.45am on Easter Day and 10.30am on Tuesday, at an address in Redshank Close. The rear patio doors were smashed to gain entry to the property and items of jewellery along with £105 in cash were stolen from inside.

Anyone with information relating to these incidents is asked to contact the Bury St Edmunds Priority Crime Team on 101 quoting reference HH/14/764, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

* Police are releasing images of a number of items that have been seized by officers investigating burglaries and thefts across the county.

Attempts have been made to reunite property with its rightful owners but in some cases this has not been successful.

Police are now releasing images of items including a quad bike, a watch, a camera and power tools in the hope that they may be recognised.

In addition to these police have a number of power tools that have not found their way back to their owners and would like to hear from anyone who has had similar items stolen and not yet recovered. Items include chainsaws, hedge trimmers and drills.

Photos of the items can be found on the Suffolk Constabulary website.

If you recognise any of the images or have had similar power tools stolen, contact PC Jon Harvey at Suffolk Police on 101 with serial numbers or proof of ownership ready.
