Dramatic increase in mindless criminal damage
Monday, 11th July 2011.
After a spate of mindless criminal damage across Haverhill over the last few days, police have pleaded with the offenders, thought to be drunken youngsters, to stop.
The targets have included cars, homes, gardens, fences and other buildings, and there have been at least a couple of incidents each day for the last four days.
The incidents have been in random areas all over the town, but on two occasions there have been reports of 'giggly young people who sounded drunk' in the vicinity at the times the incidents happened.
"There has been a dramatic increase in mindless criminal damage over the last few days," said PC Will Wright of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team.
"We are appealing to people to come forward with information which might assist us in stopping it, but also we are telling those responsible to stop.
"This sort of thing affects the wider community because insurances go up.
"If there are incidents in your street, the next time you renew your insurance you'll find it has gone up."
