Don't let burglars in with the warm weather
Tuesday, 15th June 2010.
The temptation to leave doors and windows open or unlocked during the warmer weather is offering opportunities to burglars in Haverhill.
Haverhill police have appealed to residents to be more security conscious in the wake of a series of burglaries of insecure properties.
PCSO Les Scott of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team said the problem was not confined to one area of the town but spead around, which indicated the thefts were opportunist.
"We are still experiencing thefts and burglaries of properties where doors and windows have been left insecure," he said.
"During the warm weather there is a temptation to leave doors and windows open - for instance if people are having a barbecue in the garden.
"But there are people going round trying doors and residents need to be aware of their personal security."
PCSO Scott said this also applied to vehicles where unlocked ones had been the target of thieves.
He said police from the SNT were always available to give crime reduction advice to residents.
