Dogs sniff out four drug users among yobs
Tuesday, 5th October 2010.
A drugs dog operation by police in Haverhill on Friday evening as part of moves to deal with anti-social behaviour led to four warnings being issued.
Police from Haverhill's Safer Neighbourhood Team had been given a priority by members of the public at a recent meeting to deal with incidents of anti-social behaviour at the aeroplane park and Strasbourg Square on the Chalkstone estate and the railway path in between.
Indications that the ytrouble was caused by youths intoxicated or under the influenec of other substances, PC Michael Potter of the SNT said.
The drugs dog operation provided indications on 21 people, of whom four were found in possession of cannabis and issued with strong warnings, which PC Potter described as a 'productive' operation.
"It sends out a message to these people that we are prepared to employ these tactics and if anyone is found in possession we will take action," he said.
Consideration is being given to further similar operations in the run-up to Christmas.
They were aged 19, 20, 24 and 37
