Deadline approaches for ONE Haverhill grant applications
Monday, 9th September 2013.
The deadline to apply for a ONE Haverhill Community grant of up to £5,000 is approaching.
Groups can apply for up to £5,000 from a special grant pot, made available to ONE Haverhill by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, to fund projects that are complementary to the Haverhill Community Budget Plan priorities.
Community groups can now apply and the deadline for applications is midday on Thursday.
Applications will be considered from groups which meet three or more key criteria. They must also demonstrate that the funding will make a real difference to the people of Haverhill, have clear objectives and plans for the project and how they will measure its effectiveness.
To date, 13 grants have been distributed by ONE Haverhill over the last two years.
One of those who have received funding is the charity REACH, which received £5,000 and £2,500 in separate funding rounds.
The charity initially applied for £5,000 in the first 2012 round of grants which enabled them to take on one part time permanent member of staff to run and coordinate its furniture bank which provides secondhand items to families in need through homelessness or moving on from supported housing disasters such as fire or flood and those in poverty.
The charity was successful in applying for a second grant in the latter half of 2012 for £2,500 to enable more computers to be purchased and linked to a server for the organisation.
Not only has this improved the service that REACH can provide to people in need in the town but it has enabled more people who do not have access to computers or the internet a much needed resource to look for work, apply for jobs, benefits and research housing options.
Henry Wilson, director of REACH, said: “Local support is the best support you can get. Applying for funding outside might well be successful but there is nothing like applying locally for funds where you are known for the work you do.
"It’s a warm application, if you like. The grants are a great platform to enable local groups to launch new projects and initiatives. The grants are up to £5,000 which is a significant amount of money. It changed Ray and his family’s life and many many other families in Haverhill.”
For more information about the grant funding criteria (including application forms) visit www.onehaverhill.co.uk/community-grants or call Nick Keeble or Will Austin on 01440 712858.
Sarah Howard, chairman of ONE Haverhill, said: “These grants can enable groups or organisations to start projects or initiatives, help towards funding for a bigger project, or continue to keep a project going.
"The application process is very straightforward and help is available. It is a terrific scheme and I hope people will come forward and apply.”
Completed application forms should be sent to ONE Haverhill Grants Scheme, Haverhill Arts Centre, High Street, Haverhill, CB9 8AR.
