Curry and chips proves a winning combination
Wednesday, 31st August 2011.
A Charity Casino Night held by haverhill business people at the Purple Mango Indian Restaurant in New England raised £1,714 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.
The black tie event was organised by thebestofhaverhill and Paul Donno & Co Ltd to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care as part of the Towergate Accumulator Challenge that Paul Donno & Co Ltd are taking part in.
Last year Paul Donno & Co Ltd won the Accumulator Challenge, beating around 40 other businesses from West Suffolk and raising over £3,000 for the hospice in the process.
Paul Donno said: “We organised the Charity Casino Night in 2010 and it was so successful we thought we would do it again this year. We had around 70 guests and it was a very enjoyable evening.
"I would like to thank all those people who supported the event by donating prizes for our mini auction, making donations, buying tickets and getting into the spirit of the event on the night. We raised £470 just from the sale of chips for the Roulette and Black Jack tables.”
The gaming tables and croupiers were provided by local entertainment company Circuit Entertainments and owner Eric Armstrong wowed the guests with his amazing magic tricks.
Local business woman Rebecca Godfrey, from health and nutrition company FLP4Life, won the £50 cash prize for the highest winnings.
Rebecca adopted a very high-risk strategy – playing all her chips on the last game of roulette - and fortunately her numbers came up!
Elaine Carr from thebestofhaverhill said: “People are so generous in their support of local charities, despite the economic climate, it’s great to be part of such a kind-hearted business community.
"The Casino Night was a fun event and everyone enjoyed themselves as well as helping to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care.
"Now, of course, the big question is whether Paul Donno & Co Ltd has done enough to win the Towergate Accumulator Challenge for the second year in a row.”
