Cup cruise for six-hit Haverhill
Thursday, 29th November 2001.
HAVERHILL cruised to a predictable 6-1 victory in their second round tie against Capel at Hamlet Croft.
Rovers dominated the game from start to finish to clinch another home draw in the next stage against Melton St Andrews.
The rout began on 26 minutes with Paul Jenkin heading in at the far post from Adie Hunt’s leftwing cross and he added another three minutes later, nodding in the rebound of Ben Cowling’s effort which had been deflected on to the bar.
Cowling left three defenders trailing before firing low into the far bottom corner after 40 minutes and there was still time for Mark Brandt to give Haverhill a 4 – 0 half time lead when he headed in Hunt’s cross.
Capel scored with a Simon Knight penalty on 48 minutes after Marcus Hunt dragged down Gary Collins.
But Paul Mils added a fifth on 72 minutes before Derrin Brindley wrapped it up from close range with six minutes to go.
