Crowds flock to festive fireworks
Sunday, 13th December 2009.
Thousands of people crowded around Recreation Ground on Friday night for the grand firework finale to the town's Family Christmas Night.
Earlier, the streets had been full of shoppers, stalls, fairground rides and entertainers, as shops stayed open late and everyone began to get into the festive spirit.
The fireworks show, based on the story of Cinderella this year, was a 20-minute spectacular, but it wasn't the end of a weekend of events organised and sponsored by Haverhill Town Council.
Yesterday (Saturday) there was a pop concert of seasonal hits on the market square, where hardy souls kept warm by dancing along to the beat, while others used the 'ice' rink, also on the square, which had opened for the afternoon so that young and old could try out skating.
There was also a continental food market in the town centre for the weekend in addition to the usual Saturday provisions market.
