Crackdown on the pavement cyclists
Thursday, 23rd September 1999.
POLICE plan to get tough with cyclists who ride on the pavement by issuing them with fixed penalty tickets.
Suffolk Police warned that from this week anyone aged over 16 who was caught riding on the pavement in Haverhill would receive a ticket.
Younger cyclists will receive a warning.
The campaign will particularly focus on Queen Street and the pedestrianised areas of the town centre.
Those stopped will also have their bikes checked as part of a crackdown on cycle theft. They will be offered cycle coding to protect their property.
