County's lady golfers descend on Haverhill

Tuesday, 25th May 2010.

Haverhill Golf Club hosted the Suffolk Ladies Division Four meeting on Wednesday, May 19 and 38 ladies took part representing 11 golf clubs from around the county.

Winning the trophy with a great score of 39pts was Victoria Clarke from The Suffolk, in second place was Janet Quinton (Stowmarket) with 32pts on countback from third place, Karen Korzack (Fynn Valley), with 32pts.

The Team Shield was won by The Suffolk, comprising the best scores from Victoria Clarke, Val Cunningham and Patricia Day.

Sadly, Haverhill have been knocked out of the Tolly after their match at home against Rushmere on Sunday, May 23.

Haverhill were five holes up after the morning foursomes matches, but Rushmere fought back during the afternoon to steal victory by nine holes. Rushmere now go on to meet Rookery Park in the next round.

The seniors have been on a winning streak recently, winning their last four matches. On May 14 they played against Gosfield at home, and won 5½-2½.

Bury St Edmunds hosted their next match on May 17, where Haverhill just had the edge, winning 4½-3½.

The following day Haverhill were away to Heydon Grange where their recent form continued as they won 5-3 and finally on Friday, May 21, they played at home against The Suffolk, where the home advantage led to a convincing win, 6-2.

On Saturday, May 22, the men’s medal event was contested. There were some fabulous scores once again, with Gary Webb winning overall with a nett 66, on countback from Russell Gritty.

The full results were: Division One, 1 Craig Sisson 72-5-67; 2 Kevin Edlred 76-8-68; 3 Chris Vince 74-5-69.

Division Two, 1 Gary Webb 86-20-66; 2 Russell Gritty 80-14-66; 3 David Roope 84-16-68.

Division Three, 1 Paul Amies 93-23-70; 2 Nick Farenden 88-21(i)-67; 3 Steve Chandler 95-25-70.

The ladies played two matches last week, against Bourn on Thursday, May 20, and then away against Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, May 22. Unfortunately, on both occasions Haverhill lost 3-1.
