County council is the best place to work
Thursday, 18th March 2010.
The Haverhill area's largest employer, Suffolk County Council, has been judged the best county council in Britain to work for, in the Sunday Times ‘Best Companies’ Survey.
Officials and councillors were delighted to have achieved 17th place in Best Places to Work in the Public Sector Awards for 2010.
Best Companies established the award scheme to acknowledge excellence in the workplace. Based on staff feedback, it looks at employee engagement as an integral part of a company’s success and growth and sets a benchmark for other employers.
Council chief executive Andrea Hill said: “Being recognised as the best county council in Britain to work for is a fantastic achievement.
"It is a great tribute to our staff’s determination, enthusiasm and energy. This award builds on our proven track record of efficiency savings.
She added: "We won't let this great achievement breed complacency. We know we need to maintain focus on change and transformation in order to continue to deliver great services and value for money.
"We already know Suffolk is one of the best places to live in the country and this award now confirms we are one of the best and most innovative councils to work for.”
Jonathan Austin, founder and chgief executive opfficer of Best Companies Ltd said: “This year the Sunday Times ‘Best Places to Work in the Public Sector’ list has been derived from entries of 207 organisations.
"In total we have surveyed over 45,000 employee opinions for all our lists, and carried out an evaluation of each organisation’s key statistics, processes and policies.
"All organisations on the list should be truly proud that your employees and colleagues recognise you as a ‘Best Place to Work’."
