County council elections in Haverhill end 2-1 to UKIP
Saturday, 4th May 2013.
The Conservatives and the UK Independence Party shared success in the Haverhill Cangle ward in yesterday's Suffolk County Council elections.
Conservative Anne Gower retained a seat, although in a different ward, but the other seat in Cangle went to UKIP's Julian Flood.
Labour's Maureen Byrne and the Conservatives' Karen Richardson were just 16 votes adrift in a dead heat for third place.
Cllr Gower polled 1,269 (22.48 per cent), with Mr Flood achieving 1,098 (19.45 per cent).
Tied in third were borough councillors Byrne and Richardson on 1,082 (19.16 per cent).
Labour's other candidate, town mayor Pat Hanlon received 876 (15.52 per cent), with the Lib-Dem's Mick Graham getting 239 (4.23 per cent).
The result means Haverhill's three representatives on Suffolk County Council for the next four years will be one Conservative, Anne Gower, and two UKIP, Julian Floopd and Tony Brown, who won the Haverhill East and Kedington ward (see story below).
