County celebrates another improvement in A levels
Thursday, 18th August 2011.
Over 3,000 students in Suffolk received their A level results today and for the fifth year running results in Suffolk have improved and look set to be the highest ever in the county.
Suffolk County Council says these results are the combination of two years of hard work and dedication for the students and their teachers. They also reflect the tremendous support of both their school or college and their parents or carers.
On the schools' self-reported results so far the proportion of higher grades (A* to C) is 69 per cent, which represents an increase of four per cent on last year.
Schools with particularly big increases in results include Mildenhall College of Technology and Leiston High. The council is also congratulating schools such as St Benedict’s Catholic upper school and Farlingaye High school for maintaining excellent results year after year.
Many students are waiting anxiously to see if they have got into their chosen university places. With the UCAS website being taken off-line this has been a difficult time but schools have worked tirelessly to help and support students across the county in the next stage of their lives.
Cllr Graham Newman, the council’s portfolio holder for children, schools and young people’s services, said: “I would like to say a massive congratulations to all our students for their excellent A level results. This year we have seen yet another improvement in the attainment figures across Suffolk’s sixth forms and colleges.
“For many, today will mark the start of a new life either at university or in employment and we wish all our young people the very best for their future.”
