Councils to change days for emptying bins

Tuesday, 18th May 2010.

Most householders throughout St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath council areas will need to put their bins out on a different day and time from the end of June.

The waste disposal contract has changed, which means the councils' bin lorries will take black bin waste to different disposal points.

This has given Forest Heath and St Edmundsbury the opportunity to redesign all the bin rounds to make them more efficient, to help reduce the amount of fuel they use and to cut carbon emissions. The new contract will save money for the Suffolk council tax payer.

Both councils are currently working on redesigning the bin collection rounds. Once this is completed they will tell householders and for most of them it will mean putting out their bins on a different day, as well as possibly changing the week they put out their blue/brown and black bins.

At this stage the councils are simply asking people to be aware that these changes are coming and encouraging them to look out for more specific information in early June.

The councils will be targeting specific information to all householders and will ensure that community groups, parish councils and landlords are aware that changes are coming, in order that they can support residents.

Information will be sent to individual households, put on to bins and there will also be a Freephone helpline available nearer the time.
