Council wants to hear young people's transport gripes
Monday, 10th October 2011.
Any young people who have difficulties caused by lack of transport are being urged to put their views to Suffolk County Council through an on-line questionnaire.
The chairman of the council’s scrutiny committee, Cllr Colin Hart, has urged young people to submit their views on transport issues affecting them, following the committee's meeting last week.
Earlier this year the scrutiny committee set up a cross party task group to look into the transport issues facing young people (16-24s), specifically any issues that could potentially prevent them continuing in employment, education or training.
As part of this investigation young people are being asked for their opinions and experiences.
At the committee meeting, county councillors considered an interim report presented by the Transport Issues For Young People Task Group and heard views from representatives of the UK Youth Parliament.
The committee agreed the proposed terms of reference for the investigation and the task and finish group will now start gathering evidence to inform a final report to the committee in December.
Cllr Colin Hart said: “I am pleased that progress is being made with this investigation and I look forward to seeing the overall findings once it has been completed in full.
“I would urge any young people who haven’t already responded to take this opportunity to have their say on an issue that directly affects them.”
The closing date for the questionnaire has now been extended to 21 October 2011.
The on-line survey can be found using the following link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/transport4yp.
Alternatively, individuals and organisations can send their comments for the attention of the Task and Finish Group on Transport Issues for Young People to Democratic Services, Suffolk County Council, Endeavour House, Russell Road, Ipswich, Suffolk; or by Email to: committee.services@suffolk.gov.uk.
