Council set to approve £10,000 study on estate

Thursday, 10th June 1999.

COUNCILLORS look set to authorise a £10,000 feasibility study for work needed on the upper part of the Clements Estate in response to a petition by residents.
A petition signed by 227 people was sent to St Edmundsbury Borough Council asking that as a matter of urgency the remainder of the estate be brought up to the same standard as the lower part. That part has benefited from new windows and environmental improvements.
Members of St Edmundsbury Borough Council's Housing Committee were asked to sanction the detailed study at their meeting yesterday (Wednesday).
They were told a letter had been sent to all residents of the upper part of the estate acknowledging the petition and assuring them the upgrade of their area would be considered.
A working group of council officers and members of the New Clements Residents' association has been set up and held its first meeting.
Issues raised include the upkeep of hard landscaped areas, the need to renew rendering on some properties, ongoing repairs to the general fabric of the estate and individual repairs requested by tenants.
A report on the outcome of the working party's discussions will be made to the Housing Committee in September.
