Council's new take on open meetings
Monday, 28th September 2009.
Haverhill Town Councillors are so pleased with the success of some open air meetings they held in July, they are planning to do it again next year and publicise it more widely.
There could be up to five meetings a week held over two separate weeks in July, on areas of open space in the town.
July has been chosen as having the best chance of avoiding rain, and meetings will be scheduled so that they should finish by 7.30pm.
It is suggested a banner could be put up at the meeting sites telling the public they can meet their councillors there that day.
Selected locations for meetings include Chalkstone Way near Shetland Road, Recreation Road, junction of Chivers Road and Bergamot Road, Ann Suckling Road, Burton Close, between Thurlow Place and Girton Road, Howe Road near the tractor park. Emhurst Close, MIllfields Way and opposite Samuel Ward School entrance in Chalkstone Way.
Members are to discuss the proposals at tomorrow evening's (Tuesday) full council meeting (indoors) at Haverhill Arts Centre.
