Council looks to take over old courthouse
Tuesday, 25th June 2013.
Haverhill Town Council will tonight discuss a proposal to take over the former magistrates court building in Camps Road to create a base for youth activities.
The building belongs to Suffolk County Council and the town council have been in negotiation about it since the county passed them over when it disposed of the Burton Centre.
The item will be taken in secret session at the end of tonight’s town council meeting.
The council has set aside £150,000 towards the cost of adapting a building for youth requirements, as part of its efforts, in partnership with ONE Haverhill to fill the gap created when the county council axed most of its youth services a couple of years ago.
