Council launches search for new town cemetery
Wednesday, 2nd June 2010.
The search is on to find a suitable site for a new cemetery for Haverhill.
The chief executive of St Edmundsbury Borough Council, which has responsibility for cemeteries in the town, Geoff Rivers, told the executive group of Haverhill Partnership at a recent meeting they would be looking for sites.
Haverhill Town Council clerk Gordon Mussett raised the issue as it is likely Haverhill's current cemetery in Withersfield Road will be full in a matter of a few years.
Mr Rivers told members the requirement for a new cemetery would be fed through into the town's Masterplan.
He said several alternatives were likely to be explored in terms of location and type of cemetery.
