Council elects new leader
Tuesday, 18th December 2001.
Jane Hore has been elected the leader of Suffolk County Council following Chris Mole’s election as MP for Ipswich.
Jane represents the Lowestoft Central division and first became a councillor in 1987. She was previously one of two deputy leaders on the council and deputy leader of the Labour group.
Speaking earlier today about her appointment Jane said: “I’m very much looking forward to continuing the excellent work of this administration. We are the council of the year and so we have set ourselves the highest of standards.”
She went on to say: “We are facing some real challenges in the New Year, but I am confident we will rose to those challenges.”
Along with Jane’s appointment, the council has also announced Bryony Rudkin as the new deputy leader. Councillors Terry Green and David Rowe have been appointed to the executive committee with portfolio responsibilities for adult care and health, and external relations respectively.
